Weeeeeeelllll, signing up wasn't too bad. Although it was strange that having given a password and username, I had to re-enter those to get to the basic editor. There are "three" editors : This one , the advanced and FTP. And this one is indeed different from previous experiences.
Across the top of the page as created internally are six buttons, for text, colors, backgrounds, wallpaper, images and template. Clicking on one of the buttons brings up a new screen with the choices available. When I clicked on template, there were six choices, although not all images of these layouts loaded for me, so I stayed with the default set-up, mainly because I was lazy *grin*
Clicking on images allows you access to their image gallery, divided into 10 categories from animals to general.
The links area allows for three links of your own to be added, along with a brief description.
Having used and built homepages in a variety of sites and off-line, I would have to say that overall this is not one of the more user friendly basic editors I have used.
And also the text area is small, being approximately 50 keystrokes wide, and at time of composing this page, not adjustable, nor does word wrap apply.
And did my eyes deceive me when I did a preview?? Or was there a counter on this page?
And as I am discovering, what I see in the editor is not what you see when the page uploads. This may be due to the fact that the various sections herein are within tables, and although not affected in the editor, do have a way of making the final product look untidy, at least to my way of thinking. MAybe I should go back and study the templates for one more appropriate.
Also, when going from preview to edit, in my case, 35+kb of info was downloaded everytime. If you are on a Mb per month limit, this is not a great thing. The use of tables may be great for some layout purposes, but for a beginner, the inability to be able to do what you want precisely in this editor is not truly user friendly. Maybe a seventh layout is required, along with further explanations about how the layouts are achieved.
And after hitting the review button four times, well maybe I shall see about copying this page to my HD and editting it offline to the manner I want to display Items.
